Here is a preview of the shoot I did with Diana and Myra of Sweet Moment’s of Confusion, a new cello/accordian duo. I can’t wait to hear the album as I love their music live. During the shoot I got to hear them play in the woods as the sun was going down with twinkle lights all around. It was pretty magical. I’m not great with describing musical genres so I’ll just say that their music is moody and sweet and awesome and you should check it out. As I said in the last post, thanks to The Mendocino Farmhouse for letting us shoot on their amazing grounds. I can’t wait to share the rest of the shoot with you, but only once the album is out!

I’ve been talking about getting a polarizing filter and Dylan wanted to simulate what it would look like for me. Everything always looks better though sunglasses I think. 

In my family we are somewhat relgious, but really we’ll celebrate anything as long as it gives us a reason to cook good food, get together, and then eat said food until we are well beyond the normal limits of everyday food consumption. This night I brought my camera by request and took some shots of the beautiful table and a little bit of the ceremony. I didn’t want to get too intrusive otherwise I would’ve shot a lot more and longer but I didn’t want to distract from the all important reading (parts) of the Haggadah. Plus, I had to have my hands free when the eating portion of the night commenced. I basically made it to the bitter herbs and had to put my camera down because I actually LIKE parsley in salt water. I guess after years of sitting at this dinner, I’ve grown a liking for all of the odd, symbolic things you’re supposed to eat. Parsley, salt water (tears), horseradish (straight up), diced apple and cinnamon “morter”, and most of all the hard boiled eggs, preferably with a good dash of salt and maybe even some “tears” sprinkled on top. Then, as it always happens, suddenly it’s time to eat. I never know when it’s coming, but it’s still one of the most exciting moments of the night. When the person reading stops and says, ok, now we can eat, and the matzoh ball soup gets plopped in front of you, glistening in its pool of homemade chicken broth studded with more parsley and those practically buoyant but deceptively filling balls. My mouth literally waters for them as I write this and it’s part of the wonderment of this meal that I only get to have them once a year. I would’ve photographed it all, but alas, I wanted to it eat instead.

Here are some shots from a day trip we took a couple weekends ago to Point Reyes. Sadly though the fog didn’t make for a very enjoyable hike it did make for some pretty cool images of the abandoned dairy farm we found. And the abandoned dairy farm also made for a pretty unbeatable photo location which inspired me to get a little frisky in front of the camera. Who doesn’t want to take their shoes off in a barn? Especially when the fog and barn doors are creating the best natural soft box nature has to offer. If only we had remembered to take our trusty travel reflector… Next time.  Dylan will hopefully be posting some of those pictures here soon.
